The Journey to True Awareness: Finding Beauty in Life’s Impermanence

In today’s world, we’ve grown so accustomed to saying, “nothing is permanent” that it’s become a ready excuse for anything that doesn’t go our way. Most often, we hear this in relationships, where one partner consoles the other with this line, masking a realization that maybe this connection won’t stand the test of time. This feeling could be the natural result of shifting interests or life changes because, as they say, change is the only constant. Over time, love can deepen or fade, but if it festers into bitterness, jealousy, or even resentment, we’re disrespecting the beauty of what once was. Clinging to anything – or anyone – undermines the true essence of human experience.

Recently, as I was reading the Ashtavakra Geeta, I began to see the delicate interplay between permanence and impermanence in a clearer light. A profound lesson struck me: those who truly know don’t rely on outward appearances to measure someone’s worth. They see beauty in the soul, not just in circumstances or perceptions. Interestingly, a series of seemingly coincidental events unfolded, proving my belief in how interconnected everything truly is, reinforcing the idea that the world is, indeed, small.

While traveling to BITS Pilani for an event, I encountered a real-life “pandit” who embodied these very contrasts. He seemed like a wise sage, but his judgment was bound by appearances and age-old tales. While at the temple of Devi Saraswati – the Goddess of Knowledge – I felt compelled to capture my reflections in words, feeling as if the universe itself was guiding my hand. I sketched a crow, often seen as an omen, but rather than bad luck, I saw it as a messenger, an ancient bridge between worlds. The pandit, however, saw only a crow – a sign of inauspiciousness. It reminded me how deeply ingrained half-truths can be, handed down over centuries, obscuring the beauty of a broader reality.

Life’s truth is that nothing is solely “good” or “bad.” Each experience, person, or lesson is a blend, much like two sides of the same coin. Take, for instance, the tale of the peacock and the curse it received from Mata Parvati – a moment of judgment tempered by an eventual blessing to become part of Krishna’s crown. Each experience, even the challenging ones, holds a dual essence. Grasping this paradox is the true challenge of life.

Another incident during my time at BITS Pilani reaffirmed my belief in how connected we all are. I unexpectedly reconnected with a friend I hadn’t spoken to in years. In a place where temptation and distractions abound, here we were, two individuals on similar paths, seeking clarity and purpose. We met again just as I was stepping away from illusions, ready to build a future grounded in reality. In those four days, my connection to my inner self, my simple truths, and my spiritual awareness blossomed. Every synchronistic moment deepened my understanding of what some call “third eye awakening” – an awareness that can only emerge when you stop seeking outside and start diving within.

Trusting your intuition, focusing inward, and embracing your own gifts reveal a profound, lasting experience beyond the temporary. This understanding came into sharper focus through another gentle encounter with a faculty member I met while dining on campus. A casual conversation turned into an unexpected visit to her room instead of my own. These connections aren’t mere chance; they are reminders from the universe to recognize the inner cosmos, trust intuition, and cultivate centered strength. The wisdom I gained wasn’t due to any person or specific event; it was the result of trusting my own beliefs and the harmony within the universe.

This is my 11th blog, a reflection on my journey as an evolving writer and seeker. If I could offer any insight from these experiences, it would be this: look within, cherish the interconnected moments, and recognize that each lesson brings you closer to understanding the richness of your inner universe. By doing so, we don’t just achieve “success” – we live a life that’s beautifully aligned with our truest self.
